[Ponderings] Christmas In Our Lives

Pondering… as I sit here at the edge of my mythical life pond.

Pondering… as I sit here at the edge of my mythical life pond.

One can see many things happening at the edge of life’s pond, as in any pond. Decisions are made there, life changing decisions, defining moments… to get in the pond, or not. The pond is encircled by its edges in different forms and kinds: straight, jagged, rough, rocks, pebbles, sand, soil, or mud. Very much like people. No matter the differences we have, we all belong there… around the life pond, inside, outside, at the edge, but there.

The Christmas season has dwelled upon us months ago and Christmas day is now just a few winks away.

With the frenzy of the “campaign period” and the many misfortunes that have come our way; assaults on our democracies and freedom, assaults on our moral bearings, scandalous corruption in government, a dwindling economy caused by ineptness and mismanagement in the Covid response and its rabid toll on human lives – and now, especially to those of our kababayans who have recently been struck and devastated by nature’s stern wrath of typhoon Odette, it does become extremely difficult to draw out the spirit of Christmas in our midst. It is just too tempting to ignore it and let it pass.

No, we should not ignore and just let it pass. Difficult as it may be, here’s wishing you all, my dear friends and relatives, a meaningful and blessed Christmas.

May our love abound to those whom we love and to all others in our midst, especially those who need the warmth of our thoughts, our caring, and our prayers.

May we see, that amidst and beyond the trials, pains and heartaches, God's love and blessings abound.

May we learn from the story of the birth of Jesus in a manger and His death on the Cross, in the spirit of true humility, that not our will but God's brings about real love and grace.

A MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR to one and all!

Let me share this precious note, I have kept this as a treasure.

I don’t know who wrote it – must have been Santa himself. I have kept this note and it has always nourished the spirit of Christmas in my heart, it takes on the real meaning of Christmas… of who and what Christmas is all about.

LETTER TO JESUS FROM SANTA

My dear precious Jesus, I did not mean to take your place, I only brought toys and things and you brought love and grace.

People give me lists of wishes and hope that they come true; but you hear prayers of the heart and promise your will to do.

Children try to be good and not to cry when I am coming to town; but you love them unconditionally and that love will abound.

I leave only a bag of toys and temporary joy for a season; but you leave a heart of love, full of purpose and reasons.

I have a lot of believers and what one might call fame; but, I never healed the blind or tried to help the lame.

I have rosy cheeks and a voice full of laughter; but no nail -- scarred hands or a promise of the hereafter.

You may find several of me in town or at a mall; but there is only one omnipotent you, to answer a sinner’s call.

And so, my dear precious Jesus, I kneel here to pray; to worship and adore you on this, your holy birthday.

Your Santa

And again, I wish you all a MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Pondering, as I sit here at the edge of life’s pond.
