Coy Castillo Logan is born with distorted hands. Both of his arms end at a malformed palm and his fingers are missing. But Coy's orthopedic impairment does not stop him from expressing his talents.
Using his palms as a pincher, Coy picks up his brush. He dabs it in powdered charcoal and with a few precise strokes, he is able to create a photorealistic illustration.
For most of us, visual arts are very complicated. But this is not the case for prodigies like Coy.
Even in elementary, he can already capture the light, composition, and moment of a photograph with extreme accuracy and Coy mastered these skills all by himself.
"Natuto lang po ako sa panonood at by observing other artists," Coy said in an interview with Now You Know.
If that's not enough to impress you, Coy is also a gifted singer! He is the vocalist of Mystery Machine, a heavy metal band based in Tuguegarao City. With his dark vocals and heavily tattooed body, Coy cemented his reputation as a respected rakista in Cagayan Valley.
Coy is a person with a disability (PWD) but he is so much more than that. He is a skilled painter and a talented singer. While it is important to be considerate and understanding towards differently-abled persons, it is equally important to recognize their competence i.e., the skills and talents that they have. We must realize that the identity of persons like Coy does not solely revolve around being a PWD.
Coy believes in the saying, "See me, not my disability."
