The University of the Philippines Debate Society (UPDS) is proud to host the National Debate Championship Diliman 2022 this February 18 to 27. Over 200 debaters and 90 adjudicators from all parts of the archipelago will be vying for the coveted national title.
Having consistently gathered collegiate debaters from universities nationwide, the National Debate Championship is the country’s national championship in the British Parliamentary (BP) format. However, because of the constraints brought about by the pandemic, the tournament was indefinitely postponed. As the debate community in the Philippines and the rest of the world has transitioned online, the UP Debate Society believes it is time for NDC to do the same.
To kick off the event, a lecture series will be held featuring the Adjudication Core of NDC Diliman 2022. Denise Tan, Tim Gamez, Luigi Alcañeses, JJ Pine, and Miko Bombeo will be talking about science, technology, and health, judging in BP, education, philosophy, and finance, economics, and development, respectively. These will be uploaded to the NDC Diliman’s official YouTube account and Facebook page from February 13 to 17.
The preliminary rounds will then occur from February 18 to 20, while the finals series of the tournament will be from February 26 and 27.Interested observers may join the official Discord server for the tournament through this link. Debate rounds will also be uploaded online.
The Board of Directors of the National Debate Championship Diliman 2022 is composed of Najwa Uñga, its Tournament Director; Sumi Nerona, its Deputy Tournament Director; Brian Bartolo, its Tech Director; Leonard Marco, its Social Media Manager; Xyra Adolfo, its Marketing Director; Neackle Mempin and Suki Ogan, its Publicity Directors; Julienne Vinarao and Alek Punzalan, its Finance Directors; Czarina Endaya and Miguel Sulit, its Communication Directors; and Rap Bartolome and James Balbuena, its Tab Directors.
Buckle up for the ride as we explore ideas together, reflect on our shared past, and bring critical thinking #BackToTheFuture.
