TOP SCHOOLS BAG AWARDS IN 26TH SQUEEEZE



Last April 19, 20, and 22, 2024, SquEEEze: The National Electrical and Electronics Engineering Competition and Convention launched its 26th installment. The 3-day event composed of The College Quiz Show, The High School Quiz Show, and The Technological Design Contest, assembled the country’s premiere schools in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) in a battle of wit and brilliance.


Sean Ken M. Galanza, August Simon C. Lim, and Yanna Lorraine D. Tenorio, students from Philippine Science High School – Main Campus, were hailed as the champions for The High School Quiz Show. Teams B and A of Mapua University Senior Highschool followed as the 1st and 2nd runners-up.




For The College Quiz Show, Hanz U. Baga, John Albert L. Mariano, and Marlon Ancheta from the Technological University of the Philippines – Manila bagged the championship while Teams A and B of De La Salle University – Manila seized the 1st and 2nd runner-up respectively.




Andrea Asor Cruz, Jose Enrico Aguila, and James Vincent Salazar from University of Nueva Caceres prevailed in the Technological Design Contest as champions with their proposal entitled “Project Smart Transpo: An AI-Jeepney Network with IoT Integration for Traffic Congestion Management in Naga City.” Technological University of the Philippines – Manila triumphed as the 1st runner-up with their proposal “Flood And Road Eye Navigation System (FRENS),” while Bulacan State University won 2nd runner-up with “JUANTAP: A Cashless Fare Payment Transaction Using RFID, NFC, And QR Code Technologies.”


Harish Chawla from De La Salle University – Manila Team B expressed his gratitude to SquEEEze as an avenue for boosting EEE education through health competition. “[SquEEEze] gave me the opportunity to apply my knowledge in Computer Engineering and to hone my skills in working effectively in a team-based setup,” Harish said.


John Lloyd Masipag, a student from The Technological University of the Philippines – Manila, stated that SquEEEze ignited his passion for AI and IoT systems as a tool for nation-building. “Tech-Decon has definitely deepened my commitment to advancing sustainable mobility solutions through innovative technology and collaboration,” said John when asked how the event helped him in anyway.


Established in 1998, SquEEEze is a series of competitions, seminars, and workshops for high school and college students hosted by UP Circuit, an academic organization based in the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute of the University of the Philippines Diliman.
